We all, at some point, really like it when we are told about fruit. The first thing we think of when we hear the word fruit is surely a tree full of apples or some fruit of your choice. In the bible we are taught a lot about fruit, how to bear fruit, how to be fruit, how to produce fruit, how to thank for fruit, why we don’t bear fruit, what fruit is, and much more.
If we go punctually to Jeremiah 17:7-8 (TLA): “My blessing is on those people who trust in me, who put their confidence in me.They will be like a tree planted near a stream whose roots spread out toward the water. It has nothing to fear when the heat comes. Its leaves are always green. It has no need to be concerned in a year of drought. It does not stop bearing fruit.”
Who would not like to be one of those trees that bear fruit all year round? If we read this verse a little more carefully, we find that there are several instructions, and we must meet certain requirements to be able to bear fruit all year round:
«… they only trust me…»: trust only in the Creator, in his powerful hand, in obedience and righteousness, set my sight on God, align my goals with His, walk hand in hand and keep His word.
“… trees planted near a stream…”: a tree planted on the riverbank was not born by coincidence in that place, someone intervened in that process. That tells us about being close to God, He is our stream, our source of water, our salvation and it is what leads us to the following:
«… whose roots spread out toward the water…»: if we are close to the Lord our roots extend towards his fullness, his blessing, his power, his grace, his love, his help, it means being close to Him. Being that planted tree close to the current is to stay close, in communion, constant prayer, and relationship with God.
As human beings, we qualify as a fruit everything material that we can achieve, a good salary, a large bank account, a good vehicle, a big house, etc.
But have you ever thought about the type of non-material fruit, such as: a more stable relationship with God, which is the fruit of spending more time in his presence, a stronger and confident spirit that is the fruit of constant prayer, a more constant prayer, a heart burning more with the love of God, an insatiable thirst to learn more of his word, a deeper adoration, an obedience that is totally genuine and without reproach. You begin to experience and witness the power of God in your life, not only earthly but also in your spiritual life daily.
That is when you realize that, just as the farmer picks the fruits and begins to fill his basket with everything he has grown for months, he begins to see how everything turns green, ripens and is ready to be cut from those branches. It is the same with our life when it bears fruit, you see how prayers begin to be answered, you begin to see how that job that you wanted so much is just an interview away, that business that seemed impossible is a handshake away from being achieved, that disease disappeared, that challenge that seemed impossible was achieved. You see how God begins to show you all those fruits that, for days, months, years you cultivated.
Your basket begins to fill up with so much, you begin to have the blessing that overflows and that is when you realize that your basket is already completely full and nothing else fits, but the fruit continues to enter and you basket is still so full that some fruits begin to fall to the ground.
And that is the moment, in which you must not forget to give what belongs to God, because it is due to his blessing that your basket of fruit is filled to overflowing. Also do not forget to share with your closest brother, the superabundant blessing is not to be accumulated and you can accumulate so much that your fruit can rot or the devourer of Malachi 3:11 can take it from you. The blessing must be shared with those who need that blessing, so that they too may witness the power of God when it bears superabundant fruit.
Pray, bless, love, make the work of your hands fruitful, make agreements with God to have more fruit and share your blessing with your brother, do not accumulate, because if you accumulate, the ripe fruits that fall to the ground rot.
