«So each generation should set its hope anew on God, not forgetting his glorious miracles and obey his commands.» (Psalm 78:7 NLT)
Every generation has the opportunity, capacity, and desire to worship something or someone. Whatever each heart chooses to worship is what then determines the outcome of life and eternity. We choose to worship our job, our partner, our social or economic status, our talents, our friends, our family, even ourselves, or we choose to worship God.
The Bible reminds us that each generation should place its hope and trust in Him. That we shouldn’t forget the miracles that He’s done and we should remember to keep His commands, the greatest of which is love.
Worship is not just a song, nor is it simply our duty on a Sunday. True worship is a lifestyle; an invitation to know God more. We dedicate our time, energy, and love either to God or idols. Worshiping God causes our hearts to become like His while worshiping idols causes our hearts to depart from God’s commands. We decide to draw closer to Him or to distance ourselves.
A man in love with a woman pursues her, even once they are married he continues to conquer her heart. This man longs for the moments of simply being alone with his wife, friend, confidant.
Likewise, God pursues His bride, the church. God desires those moments in which He conquers our hearts and in which we are willing to give our hearts to Him in full surrender. These moments are found in worship, when God says, «It’s just Me and you…and nothing else matters.»
But how often do we dedicate a moment like this to God? In our busy schedules, rushing to meetings, finishing assignments, learning how to get along with family through the changes of life… Do we make time for God? Do we understand that even in the rush, we can make the decision to worship Him?
«You and Me…on an adventure. Me and you…in this together. You and Me…and nothing else matters. It’s just ME and YOU.» The Holy Spirit whispers this to our hearts, reminding us that He is with us. In every moment, no matter the trial that we’re facing, He is there. God promises to never abandon us, yet often we are the ones who step away from this precious relationship because we allow the temporal things of life to pull our hearts in another direction. I want to challenge you as you finish reading this article. Take a moment, close your eyes, lift your hands and pray, «Lord, it’s just me and You…» Let God speak, comfort, heal, and do whatever He needs to do in your heart, in this very moment. Let His love fill your whole being as you decide to put your hope and trust in Him. Remember His miracles and His command to LOVE. And never forget the peace found in that moment of worship where «It’s just Me and you…».
