Whether you are a writer or not, we all experience some sort of «block» in our lives. Whether it’s a block of not wanting to study, pushing off some work tasks, or even in our social lives, we feel like we just can’t move past a certain point. This can even happen spiritually.
So what is a spiritual block? I would define it as reaching a point in your relationship with God that feels like things are just put on hold.
Maybe you’ve been asking for a job promotion for a while, and you haven’t seen anything happen but you also don’t know how to ask God for the blessing.
I personally have struggled with spiritual block. I know what I want to ask for, but I don’t know how to start speaking to God on how to ask for it. I usually use my go-to of «thank you for the blessings I have been given…» and then I begin to fumble with the rest of my prayer. If you have experienced the same scenario, it’s easy to become discouraged from praying.
Rather than fumble and feel foolish we tell ourselves that we will try again the next day, and when the next day comes we are still at a loss of what words to use when speaking to our heavenly Father.
After all, it should be easy right? Jeremiah 33:3 says: «Call to me, and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.» So why is it so hard to find the right words to speak to our Father?
To move past this spiritual block it is important to remember that there is no secret formula for praying, although there are some guidelines. Begin with addressing Him, as you would a parent or friend you are talking to. Set the time aside in a quiet place. Use your phone, computer, or bible to find a verse that you feel your situation relates to. Next, be specific. If you feel lost, ask for guidance. If you are bitter about a business deal or a relationship, express your resentfulness, and ask to forgive and to receive forgiveness. Give affirmations of what has been promised in the Bible. Finally, end your prayer with an Amen.
