Speaking Faith

My grandpa was an architect. He’s in his 90’s now, but can still sketch up a plan for a house. What I didn’t know until recently, is that he never graduated high school. He was a dropout and went into the army because he didn’t know what career he could have without an education. He met my grandma and started drawing, he even designed her wedding dress. His career as an architect began from learning on the job as he slowly discovered what he was created to do. A high school dropout became a successful architect who has now designed homes, worked for a reputable company, and still has a steady hand to draw out a blueprint after all these years.

A blueprint is the plan designed by the architect that the builders refer to when constructing the house, building, bridge, etc. We would all like to know what the blueprint looks like for our individual life, but life doesn’t always go as we plan. The good thing is, God knows the plans that He has for us and He’s the best architect that has ever existed. He knows how to build out of nothing because that’s how He formed the world. He knows how to strategically build to complete the project “on time” because He operates outside of time. He knows the challenges, pitfalls, and obstacles that will be faced as His plan is being constructed.

He takes into account the human factor and calculates in a margin of error because humanity is flawed, prone to make mistakes. Doesn’t life seem much more structured and secure with God as the architect? It would if we actually had each plan drawn out for us with every instruction ahead of time. But many times, God gives us the details on the go. We learn on the job, just like my grandpa had to do. God sees the lack of resources or skill that we encounter but He also sees how to provide what we need in the right timing. He created us and entrusted us with talents that we may need to first discover and develop before we can build successfully.

The Holy Spirit was sent to help us, to show us things to come, to remind us of the Word which is the foundation of our life. As we build on that solid foundation, we are able to receive specific instructions that enable us to continue building. Then, we find that we are actually building a legacy as we follow the blueprint of God. We are building something that can be left as an example for the next generation. We are building something worth fighting for, a cause worth standing for. We are building purpose, faith, and love into the core of our identity. And when we build by the blueprint, it becomes a structure of beauty, truth, and wonder that has the capability to transform the surrounding world.
