Childhood: stage that begins at birth and ends at the beginning of adolescence. An extremely short stage if we think about it, our childhood will end at approximately 13 years of age. I am a teacher by profession, from a very young age my heart wanted to be one, without knowing that this desire had been placed in my heart before I was born and that in the end my purpose in this life was to be a «teacher of the word of God». Many times I don’t feel worthy to preach his word and even less so to the little ones in our congregation.
Every Sunday it is a joy to be able to serve God, but above all to see each of the little ones, see their happy faces, see them adore, hear them pray, listen to their requests. And, you may ask, what needs do children have? What do they ask for? It is extremely rare when they ask prayer for themselves, every Sunday they ask for their family, teachers, friends, for the children who do not have studies, for the children who do not have food or a roof to sleep; they have a sincere heart, a heart according to God’s. One Sunday one of them said to me, my request is that God increases my faith, an 11-year-old boy asking for more faith! I want that level of trust in God, I want that spiritual maturity and to know that my material needs do not matter, the most important thing is my soul, it is my spirit.
“Anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes not only me but also my Father who sent me” (Mark 9:37 NLT)
Receiving a child is literally accepting Jesus. They are that bridge that brings us closer to God every day, they are that path, their needs force us adults to bend our knees and intercede for their souls, they lead us to ask for wisdom, understanding, patience. Thanks to their needs, our relationship with God grows day by day. Because He has all the tools to guide you.
«Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it.» (Proverbs 22:6 NLT)
I think this verse is not exclusively for parents, it involves us all: teachers, uncles, cousins, grandparents, etc. There are some small eyes that are watching us, but above all they are imitating us. Let’s take advantage of that opportunity, let’s take advantage of that bridge, let’s take advantage of that sincere heart and pure love towards God and imitate them.
“…For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children.” (Matthew 19:14 NLT)
